Wester RossWester Ross is a rugged area in the northern Highlands. The easiest approach into the area is to follow the A835, which branches off the A9 near Tore on the Black Isle peninsula in Easter Ross. The A832 also heads west briefly from this point before it joins up with the A835 and both continue as one towards Gorstan. At this point the two split up again, with the A835 heading roughly northwest towards Ullapool on the shore of Loch Broom. From Ullapool the A835 turns roughly northeast and heads from Wester Ross into Sutherland, where it joins the A837 near Ledmore. After the A832 branches off from the A835 at Gorstan it heads roughly west. After passing through Achnasheen, the A890 heads southwest while the A832 continues west before turning northwest as it approaches Kinlochewe. At this point the A896 heads southwest to Torridon and Shieldaig, at which point it turns south to Kishorn and then east to Lochcarron. Heading northeast alongside Loch Carron, the A896 then joins up with the A890. The A832 continues northwest from Kinlochewe, passing alongside Loch Maree and continuing to Gairloch. It now turns northeast, passing through Poolewe, before heading roughly southwest to eventually rejoin the A835 near Braemore. |
